Manalapan incorporated in 1931 and took its name from settlers who came from Manalapan, New Jersey. The town runs along State Road A1A on the barrier island between the Atlantic and the Lake Worth Lagoon, ending at the South Lake Worth Inlet, which most boaters call the Boynton Inlet. It had 419 residents at the 2020 census and has been home to some of the most expensive home sales in Florida history.
The working side of town is at the north end. Eau Palm Beach, the resort that used to be the Ritz-Carlton, marks the northern border, and across A1A the Plaza del Mar shopping center at East Ocean Avenue has restaurants, apparel shops and service businesses.
