Indiantown is one of the newest municipalities on the Treasure Coast. It incorporated as a village on December 31, 2017, and the 2020 census counted 6,560 people across about 14 square miles in western Martin County, roughly 12 miles east of Lake Okeechobee. The place started as a Seminole trading post. In 1924 S. Davies Warfield brought the Seaboard Air Line Railroad through and laid out a planned town around it, and the Seminole Inn from that era is still standing and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The work here is practical. Agriculture has always driven the local economy, and Florida Power & Light runs its Martin plant on SW Warfield Boulevard, the local name for State Road 710. The St. Lucie Canal, part of the Okeechobee Waterway, forms the village's southern edge, and boatyards like the Indiantown Marine Center and the long-running Indiantown Marina store and repair boats there.
