Glen Ridge got its name from its setting. When the Riddle twins, Kenyon and Karl, started developing land here in the 1930s, resident Helen Mosler suggested the name because the wooded bank along the West Palm Beach Canal looked like the ridge of a glen. The Trout family had built the first house a few years earlier, in 1932, and the town incorporated in December 1947.
It is still small: about 100 acres and 217 residents at the 2020 census. The town sits south of Southern Blvd, west of the old Seaboard Air Line Railroad line, and next to the C-51 canal, with Cloud Lake tucked against it and Palm Beach International Airport close enough that planes are part of daily life. The whole town is a registered bird sanctuary, and trees form a canopy over the streets.
