Cloud Lake is one of the smallest towns in Palm Beach County: 134 residents at the 2020 census, spread over well under a tenth of a square mile. It sits in the corner formed by Southern Blvd (State Road 80) on the north and I-95 on the east, with Glen Ridge wrapping around its west and south sides and Palm Beach International Airport close by.
The town was platted in the 1930s by Kenyon and Karl Riddle, twin brothers and engineers from West Palm Beach, and it takes its name from Yaholoochee, a Seminole chief whose name means The Cloud. The lake itself is about five acres, dug out for fill when the Seaboard Air Line Railroad overpass was built. Today Cloud Lake calls itself a bird sanctuary town and works hard to keep its quiet residential feel.
