North Lauderdale started as farmland on the western edge of Broward, with pasture for the Anderson Dairy Farm and fields for the Lena Lyons Stringbean Farm. Architect Morris Lapidus, known for his Miami Beach hotels, drew up the plan for what was pitched as The City of Tomorrow, and the city incorporated on July 10, 1963. Hampton Pines Park, off McNab Road just west of Rock Island Road, is where a lot of North Lauderdale gathers.
