Full Color Tumbler Wraps: How UV Rotary Printing Works
Custom printed tumblers with a full color, edge to edge design are made on a UV printer fitted with a rotary attachment. The tumbler spins slowly under the print heads while ink is jetted on and cured instantly by UV light, so the artwork wraps the full 360 degrees with no seam you can see from across the table. At Arnold Prints we do this in house in Westlake, Florida on straight walled tumblers, cans and bottles up to 4 inches in diameter, with no minimum order.
If you are planning drinkware for a company event, a team fundraiser or a client gift, this guide explains how the process works, what shapes print best, how to set up your art, and how to keep the finished tumblers looking sharp.
What happens inside the printer
Our machine is an xTool O1 Omni, Dual-Head UV edition, paired with the OR1 rotary module. Flat items sit on the bed. Round items sit in the rotary, which holds the tumbler on rollers and turns it in step with the print head. Each pass lays down a narrow band of ink, the UV lamp cures it immediately, and the tumbler rotates for the next band.
The order of layers is what makes a UV wrap look different from a cheap sticker:
- White underbase. On a colored or stainless tumbler, white ink prints first in the exact shape of the artwork. This gives the colors a bright base so they do not look muddy.
- CMYK color. Full color prints on top at up to 720 x 1440 dpi, which handles gradients, photos and small text.
- Clear coat (optional). A gloss or matte clear layer can go over the whole design or just selected parts, and it can be built up for raised texture.
Because every layer cures in seconds, there is no drying rack and no oven. A tumbler comes out of the rotary finished.
Which tumblers and bottles print best
Straight walls are the sweet spot
The rotary works best on cylinders: straight walled stainless tumblers, skinny tumblers, aluminum cans, glass cans and most water bottles. The print head stays the same distance from the surface all the way around, so the image stays crisp from top to bottom.
Tapered cups and handled mugs: ask us
Tapered tumblers, cups that flare at the lip, and mugs with handles are a different story. A taper changes the distance to the head as the cup turns, and a handle blocks a full rotation. Some of these work with a narrower print zone or a design that avoids the handle side, and some do not. Send us the exact item or a link to it and we will tell you what is possible before you order.
Size limits
The OR1 handles diameters up to 4 inches. That covers most 20 and 30 ounce tumblers, 12 ounce cans, and standard bottles. Very wide jugs and growlers usually fall outside the range.
Materials we print on
- Powder coated stainless. The most popular choice. The white underbase lets bright colors sit on dark or bold coatings.
- Bare or polished stainless. Works well, and you can let some of the steel show through the design for a metallic look.
- Glass. Clear glass cans look great with a white layer behind the color, or with clear coat alone for a frosted style effect.
- Aluminum. Cans and bottles print cleanly.
- Plastic and acrylic tumblers. Good for giveaways and kids' events.
If you would rather have a permanent single color mark, laser engraving is the alternative. Our drinkware page shows engraved and UV printed tumblers side by side, which helps a lot when a committee is trying to decide.
Designing a wrap that actually looks good
Think in a rectangle
A wrap design is a flat rectangle that gets rolled around the cup. The width equals the circumference, and the height is the printable band between the base and the lid area. We send you a template sized to your exact tumbler, so you are not guessing. If you do not have a designer, we can set the layout up for you.
Plan the seam
Where the two ends of the rectangle meet, the design has to line up. Patterns, solid backgrounds and gradients that match at both edges hide the join completely. If your design has a big logo in the center and open space at the ends, the seam disappears into the background anyway.
Know where the logo faces
Most people hold a tumbler in their right hand. If you want the logo to face someone across the table, place it accordingly on the template. If the tumbler has a handle or a lid with a sliding opening, we can line the print up to it.
Add texture for a premium feel
Raised clear coat on a logo, a matte background with a spot gloss mark, or textured lettering are easy upgrades that make a tumbler feel custom made. Our UV printing page covers all of the finishes in detail.
Popular uses around Palm Beach County
- Corporate and client gifts. A full color wrap with a company pattern feels more considered than a single logo.
- Sports teams. Player names and numbers printed one per tumbler, since there are no setup screens to pay for per name.
- Weddings and events. Monograms, dates and full color artwork for guests.
- Golf outings and tournaments. Sponsor logos around the cup, which pairs nicely with branded sunglasses in a gift bag.
- Retail and resale. Small batches of multiple designs for shops and boutiques.

Why no minimum matters for drinkware
Screen printing a tumbler needs a screen for each color, which only makes sense on bigger runs. UV printing is digital, so the first tumbler costs the same setup as the hundredth. That makes personalization practical: every cup can carry a different name, number or design in the same order. The per piece price does drop as quantity goes up, so a larger order still makes sense when you need volume.
Caring for UV printed tumblers
We recommend hand washing UV printed drinkware with a soft sponge and regular dish soap. Skip abrasive scrubbers and long soaks. Hand washing keeps the color and finish looking their best for the longest time. Lids and straws can be cleaned however the manufacturer recommends.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you print all the way around a tumbler?
Yes. Our OR1 rotary turns the tumbler under the print heads for a full 360 degree wrap on straight walled tumblers, cans and bottles up to 4 inches in diameter.
Do you print on tapered cups or mugs with handles?
Ask us. Tapers and handles limit what the rotary can do. Some items work with an adjusted print area. Send the exact item or a link and we will confirm before you order.
Can I bring my own tumblers?
Often, yes. Tell us the brand and model first so we can check the diameter and shape. We recommend a spare or two in case the coating behaves differently than expected.
Can each tumbler have a different name?
Yes. UV printing is digital, so names, numbers and even full designs can change from piece to piece in the same order.
Can UV printed tumblers go in the dishwasher?
We recommend hand washing UV printed tumblers. It is the best way to keep the print looking sharp.
How fast can I get custom tumblers?
Standard turnaround is 7 business days after you approve your proof. Rush is available on many orders: call to confirm your date.
